Are ferrets still illegal in the state of california?

Are Ferrets still illegal in the state of California? I've read something online that said they still are but it's not illegal for veterinarians to treat them in this state if they are kept as pets however so how is that even possible if they're illegal to own or are they still? I remember awhile back that I had told my mother and my step-father that if I do good in school and stuff, if I could get me a pet animal and they said yes and after doing my research on looking up on some small animals like mammals, reptiles, amphibians, etc. Ferrets were the first animals that i've came across and I immediately fell in love with them but after finding out that they were illegal in my state i've since then looked on some different animals and my choice were a red-tail boa, emerald tree boa, and green tree python in which i'm doing my research and reading a lot on them and i'm going to get them but I want to know if ferrets are still illegal in my state as of right now because i'm really currently into getting one and for you ferret owners what are your experience with them, i've heard that they are alot of fun and stuff.
