Why do people use the term 'reptile' but also include amphibians and invertebrates in it?

I watch a lot of YouTube videos about reptile collections, but they also include amphibians and occasionally, invertebrates such as tarantulas and Madagascar hissing cockroaches. The term 'herps' should be used to define both reptiles and amphibians. To define reptiles, amphibians and invertebrates, the term 'exotic pets' should be used. Why do people use the term 'reptile' instead of 'herp', which is more accurate. I hate it when people say reptile when they mean herp.
